The Clown Cat

Everyone says this cat looks like a clown.

A group of people walked by. Seeing the crooked flag behind the cat, they said it must be a pro-Republic of China type who avoids talking about unification—definitely a clown.
Another group passed. Seeing the incense burner and the faded flag behind the cat, they said the cat must be a pro-independence type too afraid to change the country’s name—also a clown.

Yet in the cat’s eyes, they are the real clowns—people toyed with by politicians, even the few who know perfectly well they’re being played but still can’t change their fate. All they can do is indulge in verbal bravado, pretending to be clever, while remaining, in truth, nothing more than clowns.
